Within the outer walls of the L-shaped stepwell in Loni Bhapkar, Maharashtra, lie 22 Devakoshtas adorned with Shikhars, once believed to enshrine sculptures of deities. As per the Shilpa Shastras, ancient texts on Hindu temple architecture and iconography, these sculptures were integral to the temple's architectural composition, meticulously installed according to prescribed guidelines. Though now bereft of their exquisite sculptures, these niches resonate with tales of reverence and devotion, echoing the spiritual heritage of the region. Capturing the essence of one such Devakoshta, this charcoal artwork serves as a poignant reminder of the stepwell's rich cultural legacy, inviting viewers to contemplate the stories enshrined within its walls.
